Unfortunately, due to bureaucratic red tape and governmental apathy and indifference, most of these centers have restricted working hours, need for prior appointment and rude staff whose attitude leaves a lot to be desired.
Hence, many enterprising private doctors have been providing this vaccination to people needing the yellow fever vaccine. This vaccine is called STAMARIL (manufactured by Sanofi Aventis at France) and imported under license of Drug Controller Authority of India.
When provided along with the WHO International Certificate of Vaccination, the vaccination is internationally accepted with a validity of 10 years.
All information provided by Dr Gaurav Gupta, MD, Charak Clinics. Stamaril, Yellow Fever Vaccine is available at Charak Clinics, Chandigarh, North India for all travelers to Endemic Countries in Africa / Central & South America with WHO certificate of vaccination valid for 10 years. For details write to us at drgaurav-at-charakclinics.com (rjavascript:void(0)eplace -at- by @) or call at 91-172-5092585, 91-9872303775 during Office Hours.
I went to the Health Organization, Palam Airport and I was treated like a was a street dog. They are always in a bad mood. i gave up because i felt like those people are not prepared to be there and i was afraid to take the vaccine.
I am sorry to hear about your bad experience, but this is unfortunately true for many government services in our country.
The good news is that you can get the vaccine in a very welcoming and comfortable environs of Charak clinics, at Chandigarh, on a daily basis (except Sundays).
Just let us know if you still need the vaccine.
Warm regards
good day sir…
my self sathish, from chennai.im looking for yellow fever vaccine…is that done by your clinic…. if its available means pls inform me….waiting for your reply sir…
Dear Sathish Babu,
We do provide the vaccination against yellow fever. We provide WHO International certificate of vaccination valid for 10 years internationally. Unfortunately the vaccination is in short supply, and we have run out of the stock in our Delhi Center. Our Chandigarh center has 20 odd doses, and we will be finishing these in the next 2-3 days. If you are interested, you would need to come ASAP to Chandigarh. The charges are 2800/- and we need your passport details for the certificate.
The next batch is not expected to come for at least 1-2 months,
Regards
Dr Gupta

We do not have vaccine, likely to be available in Chandigarh by 15th June
do you know of any private doctors who give the vaccination in Mumbai???
Well, I am not aware of any clinic doing this in an authorized way in Mumbai, except for the government centers.
We at TravelSafe Clinic are looking to expand our operations and Mumbai appears a very likely choice, so keep watching our blog for more information 🙂
In the meanwhile, you can consider flying to Delhi for the vaccination at our NOIDA center, or to Chandigarh, both well connected with mumbai.
Warm regards
Everyone my friend called in Delhi was rude or told me to call numbers that didn't exist? Need a YF vaccine ASAP. DO you know who we can call or where she can go in Delhi?
Dear Courtney,
This remains an unfortunate fact of life in India (& many developing countries)..
The government employees think that they are doing an enormous favor by doing their job.
I am not aware of private centers in Delhi, but I am certainly available on all weekdays in Chandigarh, which is a well connected & comfortable 3 hour train journey, or a 30 minutes flight from the Capital.
If you want to come here, please let me know, we will do the vaccination within minutes, and you can be on your way back ASAP,
Dr Gupta

I had to spend time and driving to find the exact location of vaccination centre.Like to share it with others who are looking for Yellow fever vaccination at APHO (Airport Health Organisation)New Delhi, on Tuesday and Thursday,
To locate it,
From national highway or From Gurgaon, drive towards IG International Airport terminal 3(For ease of understanding please note that this is road on other side of flyover opposite to Raddison hotel). As you drive towards terminal 3, you will find on left the Toll booths, contnue to drive and take a U-turn (return side), as you drive slowly towards entry to NH Flyover, just before the entry on left hand side, there is board of vaccination center and a high building with name board of APHO, the road on left is not the proper Tar Road but leads you to vaccination center. They ask you to come for registration between 10 AM and 12 PM and for vaccination at 2PM.Hope, this helps.
Chandra
Thanks Chandra,
I am sure that the information would be useful to the many visitors on this blog.

Dear Sir,
I need to get vaccination for my kid. He is exactly one year now. Is there any problem for his vaccination or I can go ahead.
waiting for your valuable information
You can certainly take the vaccination at 1 year age. There is no problem.
In fact above the age of 1 year this vaccine becomes mandatory.

Dear Sir,
Yesterdar, I along with my family and friends went for yellow fever vaccination. For being vegetarian they did egg allergy test for all of us before vaccination. One friend from our group found allergic to egg in that test and denied for yellow fever vaccination. We have already booked everything to travel to Kenya and South Africa.
PLEASE ADVICE ME TO OVER COME THIS SITUATION.
Thanks & Regards
Lalit Jain
Doing egg allergy testing is NOT recommended for vegetarians routinely, and I would not have done it.
Here is my post that discusses the same issue,
http://yellowfevervaccine.blogspot.in/2011/08/can-people-with-egg-allergy-take-yellow.html
Now given that the test has been done, and the person found ? allergic, there are two options,
1. He can ask the doctor who has done the test to give a certificate saying that the person is allergic to egg and hence the vaccination is not being given,
2. He can take the vaccination after discussing this with the doctor, in a hospital based setting.
I would recommend that the first option is easier to do, and you can ask carry the original allergy testing report and the doctor's certificate during immigration.
Warm regards
Dr Gupta
Thanks Doctor
Are there are any private clinics or doctors in Mumbai area who can provide the certificate?
To be honest, I am not aware of any such centers, since the private centers are not advertised online, and there is no directory for the same.
There is a direct flight from Mumbai to Chandigarh though 😉
🙂 haha thanks doc. If only! I could have enjoyed a nice holiday in Chandigarh. This vaccine is playing very hard to get!
I had Yellow fever Vaccination in December 2010 in Delhi RML hospital. But lost my vaccination certificate recently. i live in chennai. Is it necessary to have vaccination again to get a new certificate? Does it have any side effects? or can i have certificate issued in chennai by declaring about my last vaccination? Please Reply. Thanks in advance
You would probably have to take the vaccination again, as no other center has the authority to issue a Duplicate Certificate. If you know the exact date, or have a photocopy, you could try requesting the RML hospital, but that may prove difficult.
There is unlikely to be any side-effect of taking an extra dose.
Do you know of any private dr's in Pune that offer the yf vaccine with certificate or how I can find this information?
Thank you!
I assume that there are no easily available private centers in Pune who do this, since I keep on getting calls from Pune regarding yellow fever vaccinations.
The closest center would be mumbai, and that is a government one,
regards
Dr Gupta
Apparently BJ medical college, Preventive & Social Medicine Center may be offering this vaccination in Pune, you can try to find out and post your results on this blog for the benefits of others,

Are there any centres for yellow fever vaccination in Jaipur (Rajasthan)?
Thanks and Regards,
I am unaware of any recognized center in Jaipur.
There is a direct train & now even a flight from Jaipur to Chandigarh though 🙂
So if you can make a trip to Chandigarh, i can certainly do the needful.
The closest center otherwise would be IGIA, New Delhi.
Doctor , Is there any centre in Coimbatore for YF vaccination with cert ?
Hi,
I am unaware of any official YF vaccination center in Coimbatore,
Hello, I am travelling from UK but have a Kenyan Passport. I havent been to Kenya for the past 5 years since i came here. I am travelling end of this month, and i came to know that yellow fever vaccination is a necessecity? If i dont have it, will i be refused entry into India?
I dont want to take the vaccine as it has non veg element in it, and am not prepared to let my cultural values down and vest those elements in my blood stream.
Please let me know soon mr Gupta.
Thanks
I appreciate your concerns regarding vegetarianism.
For starters, if you are flying in straight from UK, you should NOT need the YF vaccine.
However, I am surprised that you were not asked to take the vaccine when you flew out of Kenya 5 years ago.
Coming to your point regarding vegetarianism,
Well, they don't actually contain meat and egg as an actual ingredient, however animals and their products are involved in the production of vaccines, for example many vaccines are cultured in fertilized chicken eggs. Viral vaccines must be grown in cells. Eggs are commonly used, but some viruses must be grown in human cells. Those cells are grown in media supplemented with bovine serum. A porcine enzyme is also used.
But this should not prevent you from having any required vaccines; being a vegetarian or vegan is about reasonably minimizing your contribution to animal suffering. Refusing necessary medication/vaccines isn't reasonable. Denying youself life potentially life saving vaccines is neither resonable nor practical.
The amounts that may theoretically enter your body are so minute that you are likely to not even be affected even if you have a mild to moderate allergy to egg/ non veg foods. You are much more likely to ingest larger quantities when eating outside – even with veg foods.
So my take is that take the vaccines as & when needed, and remain vegetarian for life – it's healthier that way 🙂
Thankyou Dr Gupta for your very prompt reply. Is there any autority in India delaing with the vaccine i can call and follow up to confirm your statement.
'For starters, if you are flying in straight from UK, you should NOT need the YF vaccine.'
I thought so too because i have been here in UK since 2006 and never have travelled back to Kenya or any other country listed under the yellow fever endemic areas.
Even then, I also have recently been naturalised as a British Citizen, only that i donot have a passport yet. So technically i am semi-British now hence you are right about travel from Uk. But its really best for me to find out for sure, as i know how people are on Indian Airports, they see a foreigner and some officers do all possible to get some money out of them…shame but a fact.
I have had all other required travel vaccines long before i had such a concern as in my first post.
Thankyou
The 'authorities' would be the Govt of India, and I do believe that it would be extremely difficult to find someone to actually answer that query …. PLUS no guarantee that the immigration people would actually take your word for it….
I completely agree with the “fleecing the foreigner part” unfortunate but true.
My practical advise would be to take the vaccine if you are planning to visit Africa/ South America in the near future, so that you do not remain tense all the way from UK to India 🙂 , PLUS it remains valid for 10 years.
Finally, most of the viral vaccines do have some component of animal protein so your travel vaccines have already provided you with some animal protein in your body …..
Hello doctor, i reside in pune, i am suppose to fly to Uganda (East Africa) in a weeks time and i was asked for a yellow fever vaccination, i tried searching for the vaccination in pune,
Had been to Jhangir hospital, they said i can get the medicine from TIRUPATI drug store (Adinath society next to city pride) and then they would help me with the vaccination process and this would ease my trouble for yellow fever issue.
after getting vaccinated and paying an amount, the doc said he is not sure if i would be allowed with the certificate which was given to me by the jhangir hospital at the airport (funny incident). Now i have few questions :
(1) do i have to travel to mumbai airport health organization?
(2) do i have to get vaccinated again? if yes, then are there any side effects as i already had one in pune?
Thank you
Ritesh
To be honest, the organization has done you a disfavor here. They are most likely NOT authorized to give the vaccine, since they need to issue a WHO International Certificate of Vaccination which is the accepted document for YF vaccination.
So the answer to your question is NO this document and 'certificate' is not likely to be valid.
You are likely to require the vaccine again, since no govt organization will issue a duplicate card on the basis of this vaccination.
There are unlikely to be any side-effects of the same.
Regards
Dr Gupta
