[Additional information on the outbreak, including the avian species/husbandry of the affected flock, and the biosafety measures undertaken between the start of the outbreak (reportedly, 23 Feb 2013) and its diagnosis (7 Mar 2013)/stamping-out (announced as planned on 9 Mar 2013) would be helpful. The location of the current outbreak is shown on the map included in the report and available at the source URL above.
India’s previous H5N1 event in domestic poultry started on 12 Oct 2012, affecting a turkey unit of the Central Poultry Development Organization, Bangalore Urban, Karnataka. It was controlled by stamping out (killing 33 006 birds ) and declared as resolved on 13 Feb 2013. Earlier during 2012, 11 other outbreaks were reported in 2 clusters. One of them, similar to the current outbreak, in the north east; see summary and map athttp://www.oie.int/wahis_2/temp/reports/en_fup_0000012270_20120831_150429.pdf.
