The Kano State Government on Monday [4 Mar 2013] said it had recorded 800 cases of measles in 11 local government areas of the state since the outbreak of the disease last week. The state Commissioner for Health, Abubakar Labaran, said this while fielding questions in Kano. He listed the affected local government areas as Kabo, Gwale, Dala, Kumbotso, Madobi, Ungoggo, Tarauni, Karaye, Municipal, Fagge and Tsanyawa.
“The 8 local government areas that made up Kano metropolis are the worst affected,” he said. Mr. Labaran said the state government had taken measures to control the spread of the disease, saying no death has been recorded by any of the hospitals in the state.

Comments: This is another often neglected vaccine (MMR) that all travelers, especially from India to Nigeria should consider taking, since most of the Adult Indian travelers have only taken a single dose of Measles when they were children.
