The Govt of India has issued a fresh notification that has a list of FAQs and some changes from the prior notifications, in regards to requirements of Polio vaccine for people traveling to India from countries in Africa & Asia reporting Polio. This is to prevent people carrying the Polio virus from these countries to India, since now India is officially a Polio- free country !
Here are the major changes suggested from previous notifications
1. Syria added to the list, while Israel (which never had any actual Polio cases to begin with) has been removed from the list of countries requiring Polio Vaccination.
2. Foreigners no longer require proof of Polio vaccination while coming to India
3. The period of taking the vaccine has been reduced from 6 weeks to four weeks.
4. The start of mandatory checking by Immigration at entry to India has been deferred to 1st March, 2014 – this is the third time the vaccination requirement has been deferred.
